CHERISTARS WINNIE 1ST TIME OUT AT CRUFTS, AND A FIRST PRIZE WINNER WE WERE THRILLED(Crufts 2006)
There is nothing like going to Crufts dog show, as you parade your dog around the green carpet to the sound of applause of the spectators, the flashes of the photographers, you have to experience the wonderfull feeling to truly appreciate walking that green floor. The first year I went, I remeber it well it was 1996, I was so overcome by the whole event that when asked to do my triangle by the judge I did a full triangle of the floor, I thought im here and im going to cover every inch of this carpet. I was proud as punch me and little Benji at Crufts, that year I got a second in a huge post graduate class. Me a crufts winner ! I was over the moon ! I was totally unknown in the breed and was so proud to have achieved success with my dog, me and outsider and being judged the way it should be on.... the dog.( the judge Avril Cawthera Snr Breed Specialist)I was delighted. Little did I know that in the following year I'd get RESERVE CC to the best of breed winner........ benji in 1996 with his 2nd prize

The following year I was so nervious about going to Crufts as the Judge was a the World Famous Pomeranian Specialist ,Top Toy Judge, Mr Terry Nethercott , I was told had known the Queen of Poms herself Mrs G Dyke of the famous HADLEIGH KENNELS, it was going to be an hounor to show under him, I couldnt wait, again another huge class, this time I WON. whoopeeeeeeeeeeee! I got a first. Now that was really exciting, not only had I won but under him,.... Yeee haaaaaaaa, I was so so happy......
The Final Line Up
Here I was a nobody from Scotland with my little dog Benji in a line up with all these big breeders that I had only read about in dog papers and had seen at dog shows.You see I listened to the tittle tattle at the side of the ring and I always felt inferior to those folks and tried to avoid showing, what a fool I was, hed have been made up now, My nerves began to show, my stomach was doing summersaults, my hands were sweating , and my body shaking, I felt inferior to all these well known names but one thing that wasnt inferior was my dog Benji, and together him and I could show like professionals, so we strutted our stuff round the ring, I knew we looked good and the applause was deafening Benji and I suddenly had a fan club and there were whistles and cheers ringing out all over the place.By this time I was nearly physically sick with nerves, and I remember another scottish lady, whom I hadnt really spoken to before saying to me as I stood for the final time ,youve done it, youll do it, just keep calm, keep calm!
The place went silent, I knew standing two poms up was the top winning pom from that year, and sure enough a worthy winner that dog was presented the CC, then within seconds the judge handed me the RESERVE CC, I tossed Benji up in the air, tears stolling down my face, we had done it me and my boy! I have never felt so privileged in all my life as winning under that judge.
The cc winner then took BEST OF BREED, which meant I was runner up to the dog representing the pomeranian in the TOYGROUP this is Benji in 1997

oops, forgot to say we also ended up being filmed by the bbc and it was shown on BEST IN SHOW NIGHT

despite it being the best feeling in the world walking round that green carpet, it really is nerve racking as all eyes are on you,cameras flashing, folks with videos and digi cams and you really are frightened you put a foot wrong, this years judge is another big name , so no doubt, ill be a bag of nerves, but win or loose I know im going into that ring with a pomeranian who deserves a second glance, good luck everybody, I wish you all the very best of Luck
