A Céilidh (pronounced "kay-lee" or kayleigh) is a social event, typically with Celtic music and dancing. The word is in fact the usual Scottish Gaelic word for 'visit', indicating that these cultural events began as informal gatherings in people's homes.
Privately organised céilidhs are now extremely common, where bands are hired in, usually for evening entertainment for a wedding, birthday party or other celebratory event. These bands vary in size, although are commonly made up of between 2 and 6 players. The appeal of the Scottish céilidh is by no means limited to the younger generation, and dances vary in speed and complexity in order to accommodate most age groups and levels of ability.
A ceilidh dance is a great way to celebrate with some music, colour and tradition to make it an event you won't forget.
The word 'ceilidh' comes from the Gaelic and means an informal gathering.
Alas Our Ceilidh has grown too big for the showring. Which was such a dissapointment as she really was such a promising puppy.
